The $4,300 Question

Posted by on March 13, 2008

I don’t want to be overly indelicate, so I’ll keep this brief, but someone has to ask (and I guess it will be me) the $4,300 question that no one is asking about the Eliot Spitzer-Emperor Club brouhaha:

What, exactly, does $4,300 buy?

Hmmmmm… I’m sure some intrepid tabloid reporter will go undercover and let us know before too long!

Julie, funnily enough Slate has an answer for you: http://www.slate.com/id/2186491/

    Eva-
First of all, thank you for visiting! I’m so excited to know you’re here! And by the way– I read about the Coonhound Cemetery on your blog– there’s no better sourvenir, truly, than photos of street signs in the South!

Second- thanks for the Slate tip. Fascinating! There was a piece on NPR yesterday afternoon in which the correspondent interviewed a Columbia U prof. who studied high-end prostitution and that’s what got me thinking about this question, which I’m so glad the Slate writer answered. $10,000 per session? Plus “incidental” expenses (rent in NYC hardly being incidental)?!
Honey, you and I are obviously in the wrong line of work! :)

    Julie,

Your question intrigued me… maybe because of my political involvement, and maybe because I was (perhaps naively) surprised when I heard that Gov. Spitzer was linked to a prostitute.

The mainstream media has made much of the irony that the squeaky-clean former governor’s image was at odds with his real character. My thoughts are that he, like the rest of us, has both good and bad inside, and in this instance, the bad was exposed.

I wish you the best on Collazaprojects.com, and look forward to working with you later in the year.
